Lemons will repel spiders

Homemade Spider Repellent

Citrus- Natures Spider Repellent!

Through my research on spiders, I found out that spiders actually taste with their feet, and as you know, they have eight of them! That makes creating a spider repellent more interesting. You have to repel spiders by using their sense of taste against them. Okay...so lets get ready to get rid of spiders!

What do spiders not like the taste of? What repels spiders through their sense of taste? Easy!

Spiders do not like the taste of citrus! Lemon, orange, lime, all repel spiders. It will not kill them, but it will discourage them from setting up home where their little feet can "taste" it.

So how do I get rid of spiders?

Here is how to make a safe and natural spider repellent that is safe for the environment.

Spray it where spiders congregate, and you don't want them. Use this in corners, rafters, attics, basements and anywhere you want to outdoors. Use it around your outside lights, windows, anywhere you want to get rid of spiders.

You will need:

  • An empty spray bottle
  • Orange essential oil, or lemon, lime, or citronella
  • Water

    Not much to it, huh?

You have to use real essential oils though, not synthetics. Synthetics will not have the same citrus taste that spiders dislike. Don't buy anything called "fragrance oil". That will NOT get rid of spiders.

You can purchase essential oils many places, and they can be found quite easily online. Citrus essential oils are quite inexpensive, and lemon seems to be the most potent. I like the smell of orange best, but who cares as long as it works!

    What is an essential oil?

Essential oils are aromatic volatile oils extracted from the leaves, stems, flowers, and other parts of plants. In the case of citrus essential oils, they are extracted from the peel.

They are not oily, despite their name, but watery feeling. Essential oils can stain some fabrics, so be careful if you spray them around furniture or clothing.

Fill a spray bottle with about a quart of water with a tablespoon of Lemon 100% Pure Essential Oil and then spray it around spider infested areas. Rain can wash it away pretty quickly outside, so a more frequent application will be necessary.

Since spraying my basement rafters with my lemon concoction, I have had no spiders return. I can hardly believe it, but it's been months and no spiders. Cool! Looks like a safe, non toxic, natural method of spider repellent to me. Yahhh!!!
