Despite what you might believe, the human body does not explode in outer space!

We’ve all seen movies, series and cartoons in which some of the characters go to outer space unprotected and by exposing themselves out there in the middle of nowhere their head turns huge and explodes!

Contrary to depictions in science fiction, the human body can briefly survive in outer space unprotected! And not only that, rather than inflating like a balloon, the human skin doubles in size, and the body resembles more a body builder than a balloon!

The greatest danger that someone can experience while being outer space is to attempt to hold one’s breath before exposure, as a the subsequent explosive decompression can damage the lungs!

Next time you go to outer space and decide not to do any exercise to gain some body mass try to go outside so that at least your body looks like a the one from the tough guy at the gym (no, please don’t do that).
