An unknown, large winged creature is
apparently lurking in African swamps. There have been multiple reports
of a Kongamato or "breaker of boats" in the Jiundu swamps of western Zambia, Angola and Congo.
Observers describe the animal as pterosaur-like. A pterosaur was a winged reptile that lived during the Triassic and Crustaceous period. It was similar to the more commonly known, pterodactyl. Eye witnesses describe the creature as being black or red and having about a 4 foot wingspan.
In 1956, an engineer, J.P.F. Brown, reported seeing two such animals near a lake in what is modern day northern Zambia. He estimated that their wing span was between 3 and 3.5 feet long and that the length from bill to tail was 4.5 feet. He noted that they looked prehistoric with a dog-like snout and long tail.
The creature has never been caught on camera though so it's existence is still disputed.
