Cats could be the key to an HIV vaccine!

So far, it's been difficult to create an HIV vaccine because scientists don't know which parts of HIV to combine to produce the most effective vaccine. Turns out, it might not be HIV, but FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) that holds the key for that vaccine.

Scientists exposed a protein from the feline AIDS virus to the blood of HIV-positive humans and found that they triggered an immune response in the blood.

The conclusion? Certain peptides in the feline AIDS virus work exceptionally well at producing T cells that fight HIV in humans.
