Nancy Benoit, the wife of pro wrestler Chris Benoit was found dead on June 26, 2007 in their home in suburban Atlanta, Georgia along with the dead bodies of her husband and son. However, the news about Nancy’s death appeared in a Wikipedia article some 14 hours before the police have actually found the bodies.
The post stated that “Chris Benoit wouldn’t be able to take part in the Extreme Championship Wrestling match that was about to take place due to personal reasons regarding the death of his wife Nancy”. The bizarre information was added on Wikipedia on June 25, 2007 while the news about the tragic incident was not made public yet. After the police investigation took place it was assumed that the wrestler had murdered his wife and son and put bibles next to their death bodies, after which he hanged himself.
The motive for the double murder and suicide has been explained with Benoit being mentally unstable due to taking steroids throughout his entire wrestling career and suffering numerous untreated concussions. The autopsy performed after Benoit’s death confirmed that the wrestler had had a severe brain damage.
