Alpine swifts migrate every year from
Switzerland to Africa. Swiss scientists wanted to learn more about their
migration patterns so they attached ultra light sensors to them.
The findings were pretty shocking. The little birds fly non stop for 6 months! After they leave the alps, they pretty much are in the air 100% of the time, except for their breeding period.
The birds feed on flying insects which provide them with water. When it's time to sleep, the birds slow their wing flapping and glide for long distances, but didn't sleep as much as rest.
